#StopHeimstaden is the network for Heimstaden renters in Berlin.
We are renters with Heimstaden and are collectively defending ourselves from our landlord profiteering off our backs. We are united in solidarity and through self-organisation in our buildings, in city districts, and in Berlin- and Europe-wide alliances.
Exchange of information and mutual help
We organise renters’ meetings. We gather and exchange information about Heimstaden's business model and our successful attempts at resistance. We plan campaigns, do public relations work and give speeches at demonstrations or other events. We inform politicians and society about Heimstaden and our problems with the company.
We stand together whenever our homes are under attack and mobilise all of our forces and contacts to defend every single tenancy agreement and, if possible, to fend off every rent increase.
Homes for living, not for profit!
We are part of the extra-parliamentary urban political movement in Berlin and are actively organised in:
- Bündnis gegen Verdrängung und Mietenwahnsinn Berlin Mietenwahnsinn Berlin
- the campaign Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen! Deutsche Wohnen & Co. enteignen!
- the Initiative Mieter*innengewerkschaft Berlin. Mieter*innengewerkschaft Berlin.
- dem the NO! VoNo!via & Co. Mieter:innenbündnis
Collectively, we are fighting for the human right to housing, against displacement, for more renters’ participation in decision-making and for the enforcement of all rights as renters.
How to get involved
Are you also a Heimstaden tenant and want to get involved? Please get in touch at: kontakt@stopheimstaden.org
We do not belong to any association, party, NGO or company. We are committed to the fight against property speculation and a city open to all.
History
We were founded on 21 October 2020 in response to the purchase by the Swedish property group Heimstaden of over 130 buildings in various districts. In autumn 2021, Heimstaden bought up the Akelius’s entire Berlin portfolio of around 14,000 flats, after which the network of Akelius renters in Berlin #StoppAkelius joined us.
